Court, April 19 1659, before Evan Wall, Maior and Oliver Shawe and John Sumpner, Bailiffs, and Willm Shawe, steward of the Court.

1. The Cart way on both sides fo Depdalls brooke to bee in great ruin and decay, notwithstanding sevall prsentmts made vizt. one of the Jury of the Leete in October 1656 the 20th pretmte that the then Bailiffs should have repaired ye lane, accodinge to the Order of the affearinger of the said presntmte by Mr Maior and Councell. Wee therefore desire the same may bee further considered of and the said way repaired in some convenient tyme this Sumere.

2. That Mr Maior and Counsell take care that Mr Seth Mort may erect a Barn in St. Johns Weend, accordinge to the sevall prestmt of the Leets and especially the 3rd prsentmt of the last Leete, and last Inquest of ffebruary 1658 the prsentmt 49. before the 15th of August next, or else Mr Mort to pay the fyne of 40s.

3. These psons hereafter named being (accordinge to the Serjeants oath before Mr Maior in open Court sumoned to make their appearance at the great Court leete did contrary to their oathe neglect to appear to the evill example of others and therefore wee doe amerce them and every of them in 2s. a peece. Bar: Worthington, Evan Rogerson, Henry Kilshawe, Willm Bannester, John Barker, John Smith, John Hinde, John Barwick, John Clifton, Wm Walmesley younger, Edmund Hill, Symon Hinde, Robt Ingham, John Harrison, Willm Lemon, Robt Walker, Roger Woodroffe, Jon Anderton, Lawr: Crooke, George Birches, John Wall younger.

4. That Mary Gradell on the syke hill hath not repaired her house upon the towns Land there but suffereth it to goe to decay, accordinge to the 6th prsentmt of the last Leete, and of the 50th prsentmt of the lat Inquest therefore if not repaired before the i5th of August next to pay the sume of 40s and for default of evy Month after 20s. a Month.

5. John Mitton schoolmaster hath enchroached upon the Towns Streete by settinge railes before his Windows, at his house in the ffreergate in length five yards and a half, and in breadth two foot & three inches, to be rented at the discression of Mr Maior and his brethren.

6. Silvester Ingham the younger, for a tustle and blood wipe upon the body of George Harrison in his own house, therefore to pay 5s.

7. The now bailiffs for the neglect in their office accordinge to th 29th prsentmt of the last Inquest have not caused a stopp to bee set at the end of the Turne steele in the Weend leadinge downe to Minspitt Well, to prvent horses and catle for goeinge downe the same, And have not repaired the said Well and the stones set in ordr, As also have not paved within the barrs, from Barres to Barres, in needful places, as in Chur[ch]gate, ffishergate, and ffryergate, Therefore to pay for their Contempt 6s. 8d. a peece, and if not done before the 15th of August next 10s. a peece more.

8. Ellen Haworth, wife of Roger Haworth, for scowleinge and abuseing Mary, the wife of John Higham, with verry uncivell Language, to the bad example of others (if unpunished), as appeares by an Informacon, givien upon oath before Mr. Maior, Therefore to pay for this offence 2s. 6d., otherwise Mr. Maior is desired to cause the said Ellen punished by bridleinge her through the Towne or otherwise as Mr. Mair shall thinke fitt.

9. That the ffoote Cawsey leadinge to the Peele Mosse is in great decay soe that people cannot pass to the mrkett if neglected this sumer and soe now ought to bee repaired by those sevall psons accordinge to the 44th prsntmt of the last Inquest: Vizt: Tho: Kay, Robt Charnocke, Tho: Dolfin, Geo: Hodgkinson, Robt Bayley, Evan Birley. And if not repaired at or before the 15th of August next to pay each of them 6s. 8d. a peece.

10. These psons hereafter named to bee unfit membrs to Inhabit and dwell within this Town and that they shall bee removed before the 15th of Augst. next, upon paine of evy one of them to forfeit for evy month 6s 8d and for the tyme past the harboured to pay 6s. 8d. a peece and for evy Month they shall soe harbor them 6s. 8d a peece.

11. That these psons followinge as wee conceive to bee fitt psons to dwell within this Towne and to give security and bee stallenged at the discression of Mr Maior and his brethren. vizt.

12. Oliver Atkinson for receivinge and keeping a Bastard Child of a fforeiner wch may in tyme become burdensome to this Incorporacon, if not tymely removed. Therefore the said Oliver Atkinson is to cause the said child removed forth of this Towne before the 15th of August next in paine of xxs. And for harboring the said Child for the tyme past to pay 6s 8d. And for eny Month after hee shall soe keepe the said Child to pay xxs.

13. There is a great abuse within this Towne by reason of Swyne trespassinge into mens farme and grasse, onely occasoned by reason the owners suffer them to stay into the backe lanes and Weends, and whereas sevall prsentmts have beene heretofor made that all owners of Swyne shall keepe them up on Market day that mens Sacks be not pulled in peeces beinge a great abuse. And also that they shalbee ready to receive them when they come of from the Moore and keepe them upp or upon their owne backsydes untill the next morninge, that the Swyne heards bee ready to receive them and forasmuch as the same prsentmt ought to bee observed and pformed, wee doe therefore referr them, to the consideracon of Mr Maior and his Councell to bee ordered accordinge as they shall thinke most meete.

14. Ann Rivington wife of Roger Rivington and Elizabeth the daughter of the said Roger for a tusle upon the body of Ann Capland servant to Thomas Myers therefore to pay 2s. 6d. a peece.
