Book 5 - 1813

Tuesday 19th January 1813. The Court met pursuant to adjournment and the Jury returned the following presentments.

James Kirkham for placing a Midding in Back Kirkham Street in Preston which is a nuisance to His Majestys Subjects and unless within fourteen days after notice hereof he remove the same midding and desist from placing any there in future we amerce him in the sum of five shillings for the said offence.

James Powell of the Borough aforesaid for placing Middings in King Street near Mr Deans which is a nuisance to his Majestys Subjects and unless within fourteen days after notice hereof he remove such Midding and desist from placing any there in future we amerce him in the sum of five shillings for the said offence.

John Smith of the Borough aforesaid for placing dirt in the Causeway and Street opposite to his Dwellinghouse in Friargate and for not placing a Channel to carry off the water which remains there and is a great nuisance to His Majestys Subjects and unless within one month after notice hereof he make such a Channel and remove such Dirt we amerce him in the sum of three pounds for the said offence.

James Harrison of the Borough aforesaid for placing a Midding of Muck or Manure in Bridge Street in Preston which is a public nuisance to His Majestys Subjects and unless within one week after notice hereof he remove the same and desist from placing any there in future we amerce him in the sum of twenty shillings for the said offence.

Joseph Goodier of the Borough aforesaid for placing a large Stone at the end of Singleton Row in Preston and a Midding which are public nuisances and dangerous to His Majestys Subjects and unless within fourteen days after notice hereof he remove the same Stone and Midding we amerce him in the sum of ten shillings for the said offence.

Henry Hyde of the Borough aforesaid for placing a Midding in Corrys Row in Preston which is a great nuisance to His Majestys Subjects and unless within one week after notice hereof he remove the same Midding and desist from placing any there in future we amerce him in the sum of five shillings for the said offence.

Alexander Clayon of the Borough aforesaid for placing a Midding in the Back Lane, Preston which is a great nuisance to the great danger of His Majestys Subjects and unless within one week after notice hereof he remove the same and desist from placing any there in future we amerce him in the sum of five shillings for the said offence.

_____ Caunce for not repairing the Lane or Road leading from the Old House of Correction Lane toward the Marsh near the Plantation opposite to certain premises in his occupation and unless within two months after notice hereof he repair the same we amerce him in the sum of five pounds for the said offence.

William Alexander of the Borough aforesaid Surgeon for not repairing the Chapel Yard opposite to his premises there which want of repair is attended with great danger to His Majestys Subjects and unless within one month after notice hereof he repair the same we amerce him in the sum of twenty shillings for the said offence.

Giles Boardman of the Borough aforesaid for permitting the head of the Cellar in his occupation under the Shop of Mrs Walker in Preston to project too far into the Public Street and for not placing a rail or protection there, the want of which is attended with great danger to His Majestys Subjects and unless within one month after notice hereof he remedy the grievance complained of we amerce him in the sum of forty shillings for the said offence.

George Abbott of the Borough aforesaid for placing rubbish and ashes in the Public road at Snow Hill in Preston which is a great nuisance to His Majestys Subjects and unless within one week after notice hereof he remove the same and desist from placing any there in future we amerce him in the sum of one pound for the said offence.

Samuel Crane of the Borough aforesaid for placing a large Stone near to his Dwellinghouse in Gin bow Entry Midding in Preston which projects so far into the Road as to be attended with danger to His Majestys Subjects and unless within fourteen days after notice hereof he remove or alter the stone to be less dangerous we amerce him in the sum of ten shillings for the said offence.

James Hardman of the Borough aforesaid for permitting two large Flags in a certain Yard or passage called Hardmans Yard in Preston to be loose and out of repair to the great danger of His Majestys Subjects and unless within one month after notice hereof he put the same into repair we amerce him in the sum of ten shillings for the said offence.

Simon Yates of the Borough aforesaid for placing a Midding in Duke Street, Preston which is a nuisance to His Majestys Subjects and unless within one week after notice hereof he remove the same and desist from placing any there in future we amerce him in the sum of ten shillings for the said offence.

David Ainsworth of the Borough aforesaid for permitting Bengal Square in Preston to be in a very dirty state and condition to the great nuisance of His Majestys Subjects and unless within fourteen days after notice hereof he cause the same to be cleansed we amerce him in the sum of forty shillings for the said offence.

John Burton and William Hardcastle Surveyors of the Highways for the said Borough for not repairing Lune Street within the Borough of Preston near to Fishergate which is very ruinous and in great decay and attend with great danger to His Majestys Subjects and unless within one month after notice hereof he repair the same effectually we amerce them in the sum of five pounds for the said offence.

_____ Duckett, Blacksmith, for placing a Midding in Boltons Court in Preston which is a great nuisance to His Majestys Subjects and unless within one week after notice hereof he remove the same and desist from placing any there in future we amerce him in the sum of twenty shillings for the said offence.

Richard Newsham of the Borough aforesaid Esquire for permitting Holding Square and the passages leading thereto to be in a very dirty state and condition to the great nuisance of His Majestys Subjects and unless within fourteen days after notice hereof he cause the same to be cleansed, we amerce him in the sum of forty shillings for the said offence.

Joseph Huson of the Borough aforesaid for permitting the lids of his Cellar in Lord Street to be out of repair to the great danger of His Majestys Subjects and unless within one month after notice hereof he repair the same we amerce him in the sum of twenty shillings for the said offence.

Joseph Goodier of the Borough aforesaid for placing a large Stone at the end of Singleton Row in Preston and a Midding which are public nuisances and dangerous to His Majestys Subjects and unless within fourteen days after notice hereof he remove the same stone and midding we amerce him in the sum of ten shillings for the said offence.

John Green of the Borough aforesaid for permitting the Sough and Grating opposite Mrs Salisburys in Fishergate to be out of repair to the great danger of His Majestys Subjects and unless within fourteen days after notice hereof he repair the same we amerce him in the sum of twenty shillings for the said offence.

John Green of the Borough aforesaid for permitting several large Flags in the Road near the Folly to be loose and out of repair to the great danger of His Majestys Subjects and unless within one month after notice hereof he repair the same we amerce him in the sum of forty shillings for the said offence.

William Ross and Richard Hamer his Agent for permitting the lids of several Cellars in Queen Street, Preston to be out of repair to the great danger of His Majestys Subjects and unless within one month after notice hereof they repair the same we amerce them in the sum of five pounds for the said offence.

John Green of the Borough aforesaid for permitting the Common Sough near Richard Leaches in the Fishergate to be stopped up to the great danger of His Majestys Subjects and unless within fourteen days after notice hereof he cause the same to be effectually cleansed we amerce him in the sum of twenty shillings for the said offence.

Joseph Melling of the Borough aforesaid Shoemaker for placing Middings at the bottom of Stanley Street, Preston which are a great nuisance to His Majestys Subjects and unless within fourteen days after notice hereof he remove the same and desist from placing any there in future we amerce him in the sum of forty shillings for the said offence.

Henry Sherrington of the Borough aforesaid for placing a Midding in Boltons Court in Preston which is a great nuisance to His Majestys Subjects and unless within one week after Notice hereof he remove the same and desist from placeing any there in future we amerce him in the sum of twenty shillings for the said offence.

The same Henry Sherrington for not repairing the Road or Lane leading to the Marsh near the Plantation and unless within two months after notice hereof he repair the same we amerce him in the sum of five pounds for the said offence.

John Garth of the Borough aforesaid for placing a Midding in Boltons Court in Preston which is a great nuisance to His Majestys Subjects and unless within one week after Notice hereof he remove the same and desist from placing any there in future we amerce him in the sum of twenty shillings for the said offence.

Mr Dandy of the Borough aforesaid Joiner for not repairing the Road at the top of Nile Road in Preston leading to Everton Gardens which is attended with great danger to His Majestys Subjects and unless within one month after notice hereof he repair the same we amerce him in the sum of forty shillings for the said offence.

Samuel Horrocks of the Borough aforesaid Esquire for permitting the Road at the bottom of Canal Street in Preston to be out of repair and dangerous to His Majestys Subjects and unless within two months after notice hereof he repair the same we amerce him in the sum of forty shillings for the said offence.

James Holmes of the Borough aforesaid Joiner for not putting lids to a Cellar in his occupation in Boltons Court in Preston the want of which lids is attended with great danger to His Majestys Subjects and unless within fourteen days after notice hereof he puts such Lids to the said Cellar we amerce him in the sum of forty shillings for the said offence.

Daniel Campbell for placing a Midding at Syke Hill in Preston which is a nuisance to His Majestys Subjects and unless within fourteen days after notice hereof he remove the same and desist from placing any there in future we amerce him in the sum of five shillings for the said offence.

Henry Knowles of the Borough aforesaid for placing a Midding at the Syke Hill in Preston which is a nuisance to His Majestys Subjects and unless within fourteen days after service hereof he remove the same midding and desist from placing any there in future we amerce him in the sum of five shillings for the said offence.

Alexander Fergus Agent to the Lancaster Canal Company for placing several Middings near the Factory in Canal Street, Preston which are a nuisance to His Majestys Subjects and unless within fourteen days after notice hereof he remove the same we amerce him in the sum of twenty shillings for the said offence.

Edward Kirby of the Borough aforesaid for placing Ashes in front of his Dwellinghouse in Lord Street, Preston which is a nuisance to His Majestys Subjects and unless within one week after notice hereof he remove the same and desist from placing any there in future we amerce him in the sum of ten shillings for the said offence.

Thomas Chew of Fulwood for not repairing the lids of several Cellars in the Back Lane in Preston belonging to him, the want of repairing which cause danger to His Majestys Subjects and unless within one month after notice hereof he repair the same we amerce him in the sum of two pounds for the said offence.

Mr Stocks of the Borough aforesaid for placing a Midding in Back Kirkham Street in Preston the same Midding being a nuisance to His Majestys Subjects and unless within fourteen days after notice hereof he remove such midding and desist from placing and there in future we amerce him in the sum of five shillings for the said offence.
