Hollowforth

A member of Wyre Archaeology, who was also a keen metal detectorist, alterted us to a possible old mill site at Hollowforth, near Woodplumpton.  The owner of the land, John Grimbaldeston, was was also enthusiastic about discovering the background to the mill so digging started in 2014.  There were a number of digs at Hollowforth, searching for the layout and function of the mill.

Research was performed in terms of looking at the history of the area, examining old maps and taking aerial photographs.  These can be examined here

Various excavations took place over several years.  Glimpses of the digs can be seen here

The site was incredibly interesting but, without having full access to the mill race, slightly frustrating with regard to making final conclusions.
